15年近い時間を経て、既存の戸建住宅の敷地を拡張し、離れを増築するプロジェクトです。

敷地は東京の郊外住宅地であり、周辺にはミニ開発による敷地の細分化が散見されます。隣地を取得し敷地を一体化させるという施主の決断に寄り添い、建築家として「郊外の風景の再編成」と「つかず離れずの現代の家族像の建築形態への投影」を試みました。

 

母屋の特徴である「正方形に近い平面」「尖った形状の屋根」「白いシンプルな外壁」という3要素を継承し、

-スラー(離れた音をなめらかに続けて演奏すること)-

のような母屋と離れの一体的な風景をつくり、つかず離れずの家族像を投影した建築形態との調和を目指しました。

 

室内は高さの異なるロフトと巡る動線により、小さくとも奥行きがあり、質感豊かで伸びやかな内装として仕上げました。

 

かつて隣地に近接し裏側だった母屋の白い大きな外壁を、光の反射板として活用しました。反射した柔らかな陽光を採り込むようハイサイドライトを設け、そこに向けて南庭の3つの窓を徐々に高くなるよう配置することで、室内から母屋の存在が自ずと意識されます。

This project involved expanding the lot of an existing single-family home and adding a detached annex after nearly 15 years.

The site is located in a suburban residential area of Tokyo, where small-scale developments have resulted in fragmented lots. In support of the client’s decision to acquire the adjacent lot and unify the property, I, as the architect, sought to “reorganize the suburban landscape” and “project the image of a modern family—neither too close nor too distant—onto the architectural form.”

 

We carried forward the three defining elements of the main house—its “nearly square floor plan,” “pointed roof,” and “simple white exterior walls”—

and aimed to create a unified landscape between the main house and the annex, akin to a “slur” (the smooth, continuous playing of separate notes),

while seeking harmony with an architectural form that reflects the image of a family that is neither too close nor too distant.

 

Inside, the use of lofts at varying heights and a meandering circulation path creates a sense of depth despite the compact size, resulting in a rich, textured, and airy interior.

 

We utilized the large white exterior wall of the main house—which once faced the rear and was adjacent to the neighboring property—as a light reflector. High side windows were installed to capture the soft, reflected sunlight, and the three windows facing the south garden were arranged in a gradually ascending sequence. This arrangement naturally draws attention to the presence of the main house from within the interior.
